TelevisaUnivision is the world’s leading Spanish‑language media group and a major provider of news, sports, and entertainment for Hispanic audiences worldwide. The company is undertaking a significant upgrade to its studio lighting systems at its Chapultepec and San Ángel facilities in Mexico City. Led by Carlos Moreno, lighting director at TelevisaUnivision, the project includes replacing legacy fluorescent lighting with Rosco DMG Lighting technology across broadcast and production environments.

Carlos explained that TelevisaUnivision relied heavily on lighting systems that no longer met its current and future requirements, leading him to explore lighting solutions better aligned with long‑term production goals. He said:
“The central question was always: what were we looking for, and which solution best suited our production needs? The priority was achieving accurate, natural-looking skin tones, as well as the ability to separate talent from the set properly. These requirements became even more critical as our studios incorporated large LED screens and more advanced set designs. We needed to create the right balance between the light emitted by the LED screens and the studio lighting, while ensuring our presenters always looked their best. Being able to achieve this without relying on physical filters as we did with previous fixtures was crucial.”
DMG SL1 fixtures integrated into a circular truss system above the news desk provide uniform 360‑degree illumination for on-air hosts and guests at TelevisaUnivision Chapultepec.
These lighting requirements led Carlos to select DMG Lights. He highlighted several key features that set them apart from other options:
“What stood out about the DMG Lighting fixtures was the quality of the light itself—particularly the colour reproduction and the LED technology. We conducted on‑camera tests with the main news anchors, focusing on LED colour mixing. The results delivered very good skin‑tone rendering for each presenter. A minus green and magenta balance also worked well with our broadcast camera systems.”
DMG SL1 fixtures, evenly distributed across the overhead lighting grid, create soft, flattering lighting over the presenter area at TelevisaUnivision Chapultepec.
TelevisaUnivision gradually integrated over one hundred DMG Lighting fixtures, provided by Rosco dealer in Mexico, Grupo Lighting. The installation includes the DMG MINI™, DMG SL1™, and DMG MAXI™ models distributed across multiple studios. At Televisa Chapultepec, which supports both news and sports production, the rollout is almost complete. The San Ángel studios, dedicated to series and film production, have also been upgraded, with each soundstage now equipped with approximately thirty DMG lights.
“This transition has been very well received by lighting and camera crews,” Carlos said. “It is a long-term project aimed at improving lighting quality at TelevisaUnivision using DMG Lighting fixtures, which have proven to deliver the results we need.”
All DMG lighting fixtures are controlled via DMX from a front-of-house (FOH) console, with DMG fixture profiles fully integrated into the system. Carlos noted: “This setup provides precise control over colour combinations, representing a significant improvement over our previous lighting systems.”
In addition to upgrading its studio lighting with DMG Lighting technology, TelevisaUnivision also implemented Rosco Chroma Key System inside its virtual production studio dedicated to sports and news programming. Carlos and his team carefully evaluated different materials to ensure optimal keying performance.
“We conducted a detailed evaluation of different paints. For effective chroma keying, the paint needs to absorb light rather than reflect it and produce the specific shade of green required,” Carlos explained.
Following this assessment, the TelevisaUnivision team painted the walls with Rosco Chroma Key Paint and installed a Rosco Chroma Key Floor using Rosco ChromaGaff™, creating a consistent, uniform surface for seamless compositing. Carlos commented:
“I didn’t want to mix in other technologies or paint. Using Rosco Chroma Key System made the most sense and delivered the best results.”
Many thanks to Carlos for his valuable insights and collaboration on this project.
