It’s a fact that many of the patterns in the Rosco gobo catalog are designs from actual lighting designers. They’ve already been used on stage, inside architectural installations or in live events, so you know they’re going to work. As an example, look at some of the new Rosco gobos we recently added, including R78766 Crawford Leaf – designed by LD Al Crawford, or our new series of gobos from LD Tony Tucci based on his hand-cut designs from the 70's & 80's. This is your chance to do the same. Enter the contest and your gobo design may be listed next to gobos designed by world renowned lighting designers like Ken Billington, Tharon Musser, Allen Lee Hughes and Jules Fisher (to name a few).
Visit www.rosco.com/gobo-design-contest, fill out the form and upload your design(s) (maximum 3 entries/person). Make sure you include a thoughtful statement that explains why your design should be included in the Rosco Gobo Catalog, because all of the entries will be judged by a panel of accomplished lighting designers (see below). They'll be looking for the most useful patterns that they believe the lighting community will benefit from most to determine a list of finalists. Those designs may be simple steel break up patterns, show-specific gobo solutions, or dazzling glass gobo designs. If you think other designers would use your gobo design - submit it! The final designs supplied by our panel of judges will be published online and the grand prize winner will be determined by public voting.
The grand prize winner will not only receive the honor of having their design in the Rosco Gobo Catalog (which includes a royalty-bearing license) – they’ll also receive a copy of their winning gobo and an Image Spot® LED gobo projector to project it with! Herrick Goldman specializes in lighting designs for theater, dance, events, and architecture. Throughout his career, he has received several awards including: the Redden Award for Excellence in Theatrical Design, Henry Hewes Nominations for “Rooms a Rock Romance” and “Falling for Eve”, the Big Apple award for Best Event Lighting, and The Live Design Excellence award for Best Theatrical Lighting Design.
In addition to being a former instructor at MIT and member USA/IATSE 829, Herrick’s credits include dozens of Off-Broadway and regional shows, Madame Tussauds, and Saxony Nightclub Miami. Recent projects include Puffs, Jason Bishop at New Victory NYC, Alice with Pittsburgh Ballet, Wizard of Oz at Syracuse Stage and Twitter Up Front. He has designed for many corporate clients including Christie’s Auction House, eBay, Johnson Controls, Rolex, Chrysler, and more.

Anne Militello is an award-winning lighting designer and fine artist with a career spanning all aspects of creating with light. She is the founder and Principal Lighting Designer of Vortex Lighting, Principal Designer and Producer at Mode Studios and Head of Lighting Design Programs at CalArts.
Her work has been seen on Broadway, Regional Theater and international opera stages and she received an Obie Award for Sustained Excellence for her work in Off and Off Off Broadway Theater. Her touring concert designs include Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits and others, and her Light Art installations include the New 42nd Street Studios façade and “Light Cycles" for the World Financial Center, NYC.

Declan Randall is a South African born, London-based lighting, set and projection designer. He has been designing for 23 years and has more than 500 credits to his name. Declan’s work has been seen in all genres of live performing arts including theatre, dance, opera and musicals.
Declan has also worked extensively in architectural lighting design as well as site-specific works, live events and some work in film and television. After traveling the world and designing internationally, Declan now lives in the United Kingdom where he still practices design and teaches lighting and design at numerous colleges.

Tapio Rosenius is a Finnish designer, innovator, artist and an entrepreneur. He works with light as a medium for architectural collaborations, digital interventions, product innovation and art. His work seeks to create a tangible connection between artificial light, digital futures, biomimetic and the human experience. He is the founder of Lighting Design Collective and the CEO of Skandal Technologies, a new technology start-up developing Ambient Communication systems for built environment.
Tapio’s work has been recognised in the fields of lighting design, architecture and art, including the Media Architecture Biennale Award and the IALD Award of Excellence. He has served as Guest Academic Director of Advanced Lighting Design at ETSAM University in Madrid and acts as a visiting critic for UPC Barcelona.

Koert Vermeulen founded ACTLD, an independent lighting & visual design agency, in Brussels/Belgium in 1995 and began creating lighting-, set-, video- and content designs for largescale events, “sound & light” shows, theatre and music productions. Since 1998, he has expanded his work towards architectural lighting design for retail projects, city master plans, heritage sites and exhibitions.
A worldwide renowned visual and lighting designer, Koert’s credits include: the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010; “Le Rêve” show in Las Vegas; the Belgian presidency of the European Union; the inauguration show of King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah; the “Inferno” spectacle for the Bicentenary of the “Battle of Waterloo”; The “ Milan Tree of Life” for the Expo 2015 ; “ Tree Rings” on the Champs Elysée and "Timeless Elegance" on Regent Street.

After studying lighting design at California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), Phil Widmer began his career lighting events around the Los Angeles area while working for the Great American Market (GAM). After moving east, he spent years designing various Off Broadway shows in theatres around New York City as well as lighting venues around the world and across the United States such as the Kennedy Center, Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and the Chicago Symphony Hall.
Currently, Phil is the lighting designer for "LIVE with Kelly and Ryan" as well as The New York State Lottery Games. His other credits include: the "LIVE with ......." series since 1999, WABC-TV Eyewitness News, Up Close, Viewpoint, and Tiempo. Phil also owns Widmer Designs, which specializes in design of lighting systems for the broadcast corporate and media market.

Vice President, Marketing & Digital Experience : Lauren Proud has been with Rosco Laboratories since May, 2014. Coming from outside of the entertainment lighting industry, Lauren brings a unique perspective to all things Marketing at Rosco. Her background includes growing up in a household where her father was a Creative Director, and her mother was a Photographer and Illustrator’s Representative, so marketing was in her sights from an early age. Having worked with iconic brands such as Campbell Soup Company and British Airways, Lauren is well-positioned to write for Spectrum about the dynamic world of Marketing at Rosco.
